The Southeast Concrete Masonry Association (SCMA) has established the Dr. Richard Bennett Engineering Scholarship Program for full-time students engaged in the pursuit of an engineering (structural, architectural engineering, or related field) undergraduate or graduate degree at eligible colleges and universities in the North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, and Tennessee. The purpose of this program is to support students pursuing a degree in the engineering field while encouraging innovative design, application, or utilization of manufactured concrete masonry and/or hardscape products in the build community.

Eligibility
The scholarship fund is specifically targeted to support undergraduate or graduate-level students having completed their second year of undergraduate study or higher. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

Awards
Up to five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for each academic year to five different schools. Awards are not renewable. Award of the scholarship is based upon the recommendation of the SCMA Executive Committee with approval by the SCMA Board of Direct. Applications must be submitted to:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student at a college or university that has an accredited engineering or construction materials program;
  • Have completed their sophomore year;
  • Formal and informal study focused on the use of concrete masonry as a building material;
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA (based on a 4-point system) prior to and throughout the scholarship period.
